The Different
He watches her exist in those trails of deepest blue.
He traces her shining shape in the shadows pure and true,
She is graceful in her movement and subtle as a chance.
And knows they share an ancient and prohibited romance.
She turns, swift as a harpoon, supple as a wave
She dances just for him, and to him her heart she gave
She twirls, the light dapples the sequins on her side.
But never shall they ever meet, behind the surface must she hide.
But still she peers through the glassy pane to him
His eyes so dark and daring, with fire sprinkled at their rim
Eyes that call to her, and cry with her, for they must remain apart,
But even so, their blood pulses in tandem with the other’s heart.
She gazes as he glides through life, colorful and proud
Thriving in his singularity, standing from the crowd.
Freedom sparkles in his movement, and he gazes to sky,
And she can tell in watching, to him ‘tis not as high.
He streaks through misty mornings bringing light into her world
Kneeling his arms upraised, like battle?flags unfurled.
The sunlight glitters off a cloak to put Joseph, loved by God, to shame
All the earth below him, clouds are his to claim.
And yet she strives to speak with him, for she feels she must
But a voice was never granted her, by God in whom we trust.
And he can never hold her, never touch her, for he knows,
The angels withheld from him the power to follow where she goes.
He sings her a sweeter melody, than Orpheus could ever play
And she dances to his music, to replace words she’ll never say.
They die beside the other, with only love to give,
For a fish may love a bird, dear heart, but where are they to live?
