If I look into the Mirror
If I look into the mirror,
Gaze upon my reflection,
The person looking back at me is a stranger.
She is a facade of the inner me.
Closeness to perfection is usually expected,
Not allowed to slip up.
Afraid sometimes to speak my mind,
Or make the littlest of mistakes.
I may come across as shy,
Content with lurking in the shadows of everyone else's glory.
A true conformist. Hair and make-up done just right,
I try to stay away from the spotlight.
The real me is rarely expressed,
Scared of what others may think.
I act as lady like as I can,
Rather to be seen than heard.
Anxious to be wrong,
A wall flower by nature,
Socially awkward,
Unsure how to thrive in the public eye.
I put on an act,
Deal with the pressures to succeed,
Just yearning to cut loose,
And just be me.
