Ode to a Race
The feeling of anxiety right before a race
The focus of my mind just before the shot
And the rush of energy as I achieve my fastest pace
The solitude I find as I enter another world
All I hear are my opponents foot steps
I try harder just to escape them
But I feel myself pushing my limits
My body aches as reality sets in
I begin to hear his steps approaching
I feel as though my body can't go on
But then the finish line comes within my sight
My drive to win begins to consume me
Its like my mind has found an unknown power
And my body drives for one last chance
It burns as I cross the finish line
At the same time my mind returns
The sound of the crowd quickly engulfs me
And my mind rejoices at what I've accomplished
