To Touch the Sky

And then I jump
From the back of the oversized bird.

I run, towards Her face
But my legs are not moving.
I am sweating,
Though Her breath is cold.
Telling me stories
In a language I cannot understand.
But I smile and wave anyway,
Acknowledging Her face
Which is all around me.

And then I slow down
And I can understand what She tells me.
Her story
Is one of
Her husband,
The Earth
Whom I am walking towards.
She tells me of how he was born,
And how she was soon after.
And that they love each other dearly,
But can never touch.
For He is the Earth.
And She is the Sky.

And then I leave Her,
And stand in front of the man,
Her husband,
Who is grinning.
Because for once,
Someone was willing to venture,
And able to hear
Her side of the story,
And not just His,
The story of time.
For once.

And then I turn away from Him
And I look into the blue-and-white face
Of his wife,
Whom he can never touch.
And I smile and wait
For the day
She would speak
To me
Again.
