Gateway to Brea
Running down cobblestone steps
Flats clapping on the stairs
Hair streaming behind me
Getting darker, moving closer to the time
Breath getting faster as my heartbeat quickens
Don’t want to miss it
Only stays a moment
I take the last step, turn the corner
And stand aghast, once again
On the horizon, black silhouettes of palm trees
Stand as negatives
To the rich, yellow honey streaming through them
Rays, the hue of butterscotch dance in my eyes
Transforming angular city life into an urban wonder
Somebody tell Midas
I found his gold
