Freedom is not Free
An August Day in the Civil War
Many died, less or more
People died as you can see
We realize freedom is not free
To the soldiers who gave their lives
And to the men who did survive
To the dead laying on the ground
For at no circumstance would they back down
I write this poem in memory of
those proud soldiers who rest above
Surely they fought for us to see
Above it all, freedom is not free
Black freedom is the reason for
the men who died in the Civil War
But not all went as Lincoln arranged
For 100 years later, discrimination had not changed
But a cry for freedom is what we plea
Let us know freedom is not free
