Vanishing Hope
My parents just got divorced.
I'm confused,
But I'll get used to this.
You promise it'll be alright.
(I know it will.)
You've been diagnosed with cancer.
It's sudden;
You've always been healthy.
You promise you'll be alright.
(I hope you will.)
It's getting worse slowly,
The doctors say.
There's a time limit on life now.
You promise I'll be alright.
(I doubt I will.)
Now, you're gone,
Just like that.
You left a hole in me.
Who's going to say it'll be alright?
(No one because it won't.)
