Six Copper Pennies
Cold white leather.
Laced with red yarn.
Faded dirt.
And generic logos of childhood dreams.
Five ounces.
Nine inches.
Three dollars and seventy six cents.
Paid in full.
With seventy four hard earned nickels.
And six copper pennies.
Hot summer days.
Spent whirring through the air.
Rolling on the grass.
And hiding under bushes.
Worn down.
By harsh weather and dampened earth.
Stained.
With black sharpie and wet ground.
Beaten.
By aluminum bats and leather gloves.
Lost.
Under stationary cars and vacant decks.
