Urban
Dank city
Filthy street
Smell of damp
Smell of death
Rising from the sewers
With the rats that claw their way
Winding up up up up
Flick of tail
Twitch of whisker
Gleam of eye
Scamper across the garbage
Lying on the ground
City ground
City sky
Thick with smoke
And rain.
A cigarette glows
Like an evil eye
In the dark
Crackle of tobacco
Like a rustle of filthy silk.
Woman walks
Click click click
On the concrete
Slow strut
Only way to survive
For her,
Windows are closed
No one lets in the darkness
Not from the night
But from the urban itself.
