Evening Walk
I lose my thoughts in the silent splash of the waves
I look toward the golden moon
coming up over the horizon
I feel my mother's hand on my shoulder
my feet cold from the water's touch
I lean against her for warmth
we stand there awhile
taking in the beauty of the beach
i wonder why life can't always be this perfect
Then my mother whispers to me,
"Sarah, do you promise to remember this?"
"Yes, I promise," I say
"Good," she says,
and we walk on down
toward the endless horizon
