Jesus Loves Me, This I Know
Clothed in pure, bland white
like sheep obediently following their shepherd,
abstaining from the world’s evils
they sit smile-plastered on their wooden pews.
The shuffle of soiled feet
and the clink of wooden ladles against metal bowls
constitutes a productive and jeweling day.
Their faded heads gladly accept death
as they march confidently to the heavenly gates.
St. Peter greets them
and points to the heated basement.
Upwards they gaze
and see the repentant drunks, murderers, and rapists
dancing in their Savior’s glory.
