If Everyone Knew
Her body crashes purples and blues
A sunset, a landscape
A messy hum of hues
Evidence vintage and fading down her nostalgic limbs
Trailing to clenched fists and curled toes
Trying to fight off moments like those
But when she closes her eyes she can pretend
To know what it’s like to be real again
Watching broken movie screens behind the blank palette of her eyes
Spots left over from the sun, she stares and stares
The same scene repeats
But the frozen, empty smiles can never give her what she needs
She wraps herself in armor so she can’t break
She shields her eyes with violence to avoid another mistake
Her hands are tied
(Time is fleeting)
Her feet won’t let her escape
(As her last chance is leaving)
She’ll cut you with her words
She’ll cut you with her words
But when she closes her eyes she can pretend
To know what it’s like to be real again
Watching broken movie screens behind the blank palette of her eyes
Spots left over from the sun, she stares and stares
The same scene repeats
But the frozen, empty smiles can never give her what she needs
Her relentless legs keep moving faster
Running towards her next disaster
She’s screaming hopelessness
I pray for silence
Searching in vain for the trapdoor
A place for actors to escape when they can’t take it anymore
She’s gonna get what she deserves
She’s gonna get what she deserves
But when she closes her eyes she can pretend
To know what it’s like to be real again
Watching broken movie screens behind the blank palette of her eyes
Spots left over from the sun, she stares and stares
The same scene repeats
But the frozen, empty smiles can never give her what she needs
