All I Have Left
The night before we left
I tried to memorize
How the stars shown through
The cracks in the sky.
Bright, no smog to impede,
The progression of light,
A light which filled me.
I stood in the stillness of night
A friend by my side.
Pretending that maybe
This wasn’t the final goodbye
To the place which was the best part of me.
I left though,
I could not hold back the
Movement of time
Let alone the movement of me.
I hold those stars in hand and in heart,
A piece of a home I once had,
And they shine ever-bright
through the cracks in my smile.
