My Hand
I extend my hand to you
You who have born
The suppression, the hate, the fists
You who have worn
The insults, the bruises, the blood
For all you’ve been through
I extend my hand to you
You who hide in the shadows
Because you feel scared and alone
To you who have nothing to show
For the threats, the beatings, the blows
Because the scars are always new
I extend my hand to you
You who have tried
To stand strong, for you, for us
Though you were crumbling inside
To you who spoke, with a trembling voice
Though you knew it was taboo
I extend my hand to you
You who had no choice
But to lie there helpless
To you who have no voice
Because you want justice
But they don’t believe it’s true
I extend my hand to you
Because they turned their heads
Though you lay there crying
With your legs spread
Your struggling frame held down
Because no one has the right to subdue
I extend my hand to you
To you who are my heroes
Because you’ve endured
More than anyone could ever know
And I extend my hand to you
Because I’ve been there too
I extend my hand to you
Because we’ve felt the disgrace
Because we’ve all felt the chains
Though we don’t show it on our face
Because we must stand and fight together
If equality we want to pursue
I extend my hand to you
Take it, embrace it
Together we can make a change
But we must never submit
We will never again be silenced
Because it’s time for something new
