Favorite Quote:
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."

A box in an attic
In a dark, dusty room
Filled with pictures, once memories,
Forgotten too soon.
One face among many
A smile long gone
A story now lost
To generations moved on.
“Who was she, Mommy?”
The wonderer asks
Of the one not remembered
Dissolved in the past.
And no one can answer
Because how could they know,
As they stare at blank pages,
How this story goes?
Did she love?
Did she bleed?
Did she cry as she died?
Did she want?
Did she dream?
Or not bother to try?
But nobody knows
And none of them care
For the anonymous girl
Who’s left smiling there
With a ballad unwritten
A story untold
Content to do nothing
Until she grew old.

So the last of her dies
As her picture is tossed
Back in with the others;
Forgotten. Lost.

The author's comments:
This poem basically puts my greatest fear into words. I'm not really afraid of death, but the idea of dying without ever making my mark on the world terrifies me. I want to leave behind a legacy, have my name printed in textbooks, and have my words immortalized so that centuries from now people will still remember my name. I don't want to be just another anonymous face in the crowd who, after my grandchildren die, ends up as just another ancient picture in an attic where no one has a clue (or worse, no one cares) who I am or what my life was like, because the only people who will ever remember me are in the same place I am. This poem is my resolve to never let that happen.
