Starry Night
Stars scintillate above a drowsy town,
freckling the night sky with splendor,
scarring the black abyss with pocks of radiance.
God’s watching eyes blink down,
protecting the people,
assuaging them
for now everything is right with the world.
The night sky seeps into the town,
like water through cracked cement,
permeating every crevice and filling empty voids.
A tree stretches its branches for the moon to grasp,
so that they may link hands and become welded as one,
understanding that
we are not so far away from the unknown and what we are meant to know.
