Snow
I look out the window,
As the cold air from outside
Creeping through the double pane glass
Tickles my face and neck,
Craning my body to see around my yard.
I walk out my front door and step onto the porch
Teasing my self by getting as close as I can
To the edge of the freezing cement
Without letting my toes feel the soft, white powder.
I want to be the first to touch it,
To feel the snow give way under the weight
Of each step I take while I wander,
With an aura of serenity, through my yard
Carving a trail going nowhere.
But I would never chose
To deface such a beauty.
So I watch from my porch
As the wind picks up puffs of snow
And dances them around
Like twinkling fairies in the night.
