I Love You, Goodbye
No one knew
Not even you
Maybe you could feel something wasn’t right
And you could feel your body putting up a fight
You didn’t find out until it was too late
I still remember that fateful date
The last time that I saw you, you hid your pain well
Even though that on the outside you could tell
Tell that your skin was being attacked by cancer
And somehow know none of the doctors held the answer
You tried every new treatment they came up with, you tried everything
Chemotherapy and whatever else they could bring
Your skin cancer was rare, and you let them run their tests
And even though the doctors did their best…
You passed in your sleep, very peacefully
In October, and I had no idea that the previous summer you visited would be the last I’d see…
See of you, together with me and my family
You acted as if nothing were wrong, you were so strong
But, cancer takes the best of people, even though it’s wrong
Mom says that he wanted me to remember him that way
Which is why he came for one last visit and never complained
I still miss him very much to this day
Even though it’s been years, I never got to say…
If I could only have four words, to him I wouldn’t lie
I would have whispered in his ear: I love you, goodbye.
