Whispers
The trees dance in the wind
 As a gentle breeze rolls
 Across the landscape
 Carrying warnings
 Of a new threat.

 The beetles scuttle
 Across the rocks
 As the animals slink
 Into the shadows
 Unseen; and unknown.

 The breeze tickles the nose
Of a deer as it sways
 Across the water
 Into the ears of all
 Who gathered.

 It whispers the news
 As it grows colder
 And everyone rushes home
 Not believing the wind
 When they are struck down
By the sky, gray and bleak.

Rain pelts them from all sides
As the wind howls in their ears
 For being such fools
 As they are thrown
 Backwards.

 The gods yell,
 Scream,
 And laugh at their misery
 When they are thrown into
 The eye of the storm.

 Deafening silence surrounds
 Them from all sides
 As the stars twinkle
The sun winks out of existence
 And the moon says goodnight.

 The night goes black
 And times stops
As they return to the forest
 Their heads held low
 As whispers accompany them.

 ‘I won’t give up,’
 It whispers into their minds
 Like a sickness spreading,
 The wind flies away
 The birds sing.

 Dawn arrives just as cold
 It creeps into their dens,
The start of a new day, already broken
As the wind whispers to them
 For being such fools.

 Trees crash together
 Grass is run over
And in the minds of every living
 Thing lurks the new threat
Of wind as it whispers to them.

It rolls across lands of unspoken tales
 And blows across clouds,
But the forest will never forget the day
 The wind turned on them
And whispered lies in their ears.
