Mirrors
Peering into the silvery expanse
Impurities, monstrosities leering back
their message lulled me into a trance
And informed me of what my soul does lack
They said I was a warden, holding shut the iron gates
Behind which lay the quintessence of a saint
Aspiring, yearning for escape
A brighter outlook on my canvas paint.
They said I was a gale at sea
Devouring wayward sailors drawn my way
Mild sun, but was not meant to be
As thunderous cracks illuminate the bay
They said I was a shadow in the night
Cast in plain sight, but never seen
Despite my efforts, all my might
would not bring about all I could have been
Finally they said I was an old man
That my fire for life had flickered its last
That I was but an afterthought of the bold man
That my glory days were but a memory of the past
I stood up exclaimed I AM ILLUMINATION
I am growing ever wiser
Casting light on internal desolation
And to the beasts within, I am tranquilizer
YOU WILL NOT ACCUSE ME OF SOMETHING I AM NOT
I am the key to unlock the gates of my own prison
I am the sun's rays beaming through the clouds
I am casting light on ideas previously hidden
I am youth personified, my flame will never die.
