The Flag Was Still There
your empire is full of honking cars
and families with baskets and smiles
where the politicians approve a message
that shows fields of grain for miles
and the men take off their hats to sing
a song with too high of notes to reach
look beneath to why the cars honk
while the politicians lie through their teeth
of a better empire, red white and blue
maybe the men feel patriotic while they mouth the song
but look again at the flag stained blood red
and you'll know why its true
