Lightbulb
For Kevin and Bobbi
An internal struggle
You can do it
No you can’t
I stare at the page
Willing the letters
To arrange themselves
Into words
Lightbulb flash
In my five-year-old brain
Words!
Bears . . . camp . . .
Brother . . . bus
Overwhelming
My eyes pop wide
“Out loud,”
my mom urges
I open my mouth.
Close it.
Open. Read.
The words flow
Like water
Like rain
I did it!
I can!
Pride bubble up
I feel like flying
I reached
That long awaited goal
I can read!
