Lucky Penny
I slid my quarter into the vending machine
And got a surprise
A bright copper penny clanged into the change tray
Heads up
I see it and smile
Childhood rhymes jangle through my head
As I bend to pick it up
And I think, what if…
There are so many things I would love to go right
Maybe a certain boy…
A good grade on a test
Forgiveness from some
Forgiveness for some, too
I pocket the penny
Thinking better safe than sorry
So many things I desire
It wouldn’t hurt to try
