Dreams
That's why they call them dreams
Because they'll never be reality
I used to dream,
I used to dream of singing
Of going above and beyond
But Mommy said
'Not possible'
And I had to be realistic
Every single time
Different dream
But the same reply
I learned to keep my hopes and dreams a secret
To protect them from her
And anyone else that might say I couldn't do it
I wanted to draw
Just like my father
But when I thought I was close
To the end of the line
The line would stretch further
And I'd have to start over
With a new pencil
And a little less hope
Then I gave up on trying
Trying to make my dreams come true
Unless they were realistic
And not very hard to do
But in the end I know
That dreams are like wishes
They never come true
