A Bittersweet Life

It’s a bittersweet life wearing this star.
It’s sweet simply because we are proud of who we are.
It’s bitter because we die for this star.
It’s a bittersweet life here in this camp.

We grow as a family,
Even though we want to forget.
We starve, we fall, but the most of all we are proud to be who we are.

It’s so bittersweet seeing your loved ones die
3 days here when you see it you won’t even cry.

It’s bitter because you hate to see them go
But it’s sweet because you never want to see them so low.
So low in faith so low in life, we used to have so little in strife.
God is out there I can just know that when this is over we will once again see the flowers grow.

It’s a bittersweet life here as a Jew.
Does anyone out there have even a clue?

We are dying here next to our friends, next to our family
And we are dying all so very sadly.

It’s a bittersweet life here alone.
I am so skinny I am almost just bone.

Slowly dying here in my bed.
When will this sick feeling ever end.

It’s a bittersweet life,
As it slips away.
Not really knowing what else to say.

Just that it has been a bittersweet life wearing this star.
Simply because we are proud of who we are.
