I Am From
I am from the family
The boy who dared, who tried, who failed.
I am from bloody knees and broken promises
 Live, love friendship all disappointing
Mistakes I made which can never be fixed
Regrets that will haunt me for the rest of my life
Taunting me with “what ifs” and “could have beens”
 I am from pain
The hard feeling of a ball against a mitt
The force so strong it knocks back into me
The shame of losing game after game
I was born from experience and endurance
 Shattered bones to broken heads
 Stitches, casts, gauze and drugs
I am from the dirt and grass
I am from metal and concrete
I am from the good and the bad
 The skilled and the beginners
 The losers and the winners
 The rich and the poor
 I am from the many
 I am from the city
