Naked
As I bathe myself in the streams,
I’m scared that you’ll see the secret parts of me.
So before you take a glance, I’ll hide myself in the shadows of the trees.
I’ll hide myself in the dark where you cannot see.
I am hiding because I am naked,
For what was made by you is no longer sacred.
You say you want the truth but I’m not so sure you can handle it.
It’s too much, you haven’t seen anything like this.
Little by little I open my eyes to all of these lies.
Where once was grace there’s now my shame.
You tell me once again, you don’t have to do this alone,
I rush away from you to put on my clothes.
But then you find me and I’m exposed.
You said to me, “the thing you’re hiding I already know.”
You then take me through the grass and pass some trees,
Until we reach the one called Shagbark Hickory.
The tree looked dead and very sickly,
Everything about it was ugly to me.
You then said to me, “You think this tree is dead, useless, and diseased?
My son this tree is stronger and more healthier than you would believe.
This tree doesn’t hide its flaws from the light,
It doesn’t run from it and escape to the night.
The tree never wished to look this way,
And in spite of his appearance it keeps on searching for a brighter day.”
I answered back, “How long will I be searching, how long will I wait?
How long will I wait to meet my fate?”
You said to me, “As long as I control time, you’ll be fine.
I’ll hold you in my arms in your darkest of days and I’ll wipe away your tears from your face.”
As I bathe myself with water in the streams,
I’m no longer scared that you’ll see,
because you've already seen the secret parts of me.
