The Mysterious Invaders
They’ve been here quite some time
Who knows from whence they came
We go about our business
And we let them do the same
It was nighttime last September
They came in with a ‘Please’ and a gun
They broke down the doors so politely
That we let them have their fun
They all where dark cloaks and hoods
To cover their scaly black wings
They never say much to the passerby
On their way to mysterious things
The mayor resigned on Tuesday last week
A black-hooded man took his place
Last I heard, he retired to Fiji
The strange creatures insist that he’s safe.
The people can no longer leave the town
A creature stands guard at each gate
Their scythes shine sharp in the moonlight
I guess that we’ll just have to wait
The people are gone, and who knows how?
Not a sound has been heard in two days
I take the Invaders at their word
They aren’t connected in any way
They told us from the beginning
With their ‘Please’ and their gentle gun
They mean no harm to the likes of us
Shhh……
Was that a knock?
It was.
They’ve been here quite some time
Who knows from whence they came
We go about our business
And we let them do the same
