Gone Forever
He lies there with ashen face and dull eyes
Everyone around you sniffles and cries
You stand there rigid not knowing what to do
Its as though the moment has paralyzed you
White replaces the once youthful honey glow
For how long he has been like this you do not know
The hours pass and slowly the people start leave
Until you are the only one left, not knowing by staying here what you will achieve
Should your chest ache with grief?
Or should you just walk around in disbelief
You take his stiff hand in yours
Remembering when you and him were both children playing on the moors
The Mortician comes and shoos you away
Saying they are closing for the day
You walk alone down the gravel path to your car
Perhaps he'll see you when you look at the stars
As you drive away a single tear you shed
For it finally dawns on you your dearest friend is dead
