Broken Mirror
Mirror Mirror on the wall,
I wish you would show me nothing at all.
Mirror Mirror why can’t you see
that your cracked reflection is killing me.
Mirror Mirror I’m broken inside
Because you showed me my thighs are too wide.
Your shattered pieces are shattering my soul.
Nothing is perfect, nothing is good.
There is nothing right with the way that I look.
The girl in the mirror is so repugnant to me.
Is there no one else’s reflection she could be?
Dizzy, blurry, can’t see straight
All of this just to lose weight.
My family laugh with each other at dinner
BUT PEOPLE WHO EAT ARE NOT WINNERS!
I want to be pretty, I want to be thin.
I want to feel beautiful from within.
Mirror Mirror one day I’ll be
so very skinny you can’t see me.
Mirror Mirror on the wall
the anorexic is not the fairest of them all.

I wrote this piece because I have recently been going through a lot of issues with weight loss and have a good friend who is too. I did some photography a while ago all about how reflections can be wrong and it inspired me to write this poem.
