Five Years Old
Five
I had my first best friend Noah,
I wonder where he is now.
We jumped on his parent’s bed as if to fly away,
until the neighbors yelled
and all we could do was laugh.
I want to go back.

I stayed at my grandma’s whose sight was disappearing yet she always sees which is hard for others when I am standing right in front of them.
She would cook me dinner with the faint noise of the radio buzzing in the background of her humming in the kitchen.

I looked in the mirror and never once thought about what being eighteen would be like. I could reach out and touch it only to see a small blonde girl wanting to go to the park. My reflection is so different now than it used to be.

We let butterflies free in preschool with all our parents watching like high school graduation
they see someone growing up.
Somehow I think my butterfly stayed trapped in the cage we kept them in.
