How Things Change
I used to feel safe and secure
And was able to be worry-free
But now it’s so obscure
How careful I have to be
I used to want to go to school
The place where I could learn
Now there are sexist rules
That makes my anger burn
It isn’t about the learning anymore
It’s all about the grades
I go to class to snore
And take the test the next day
I used to not care about my appearance
But now it’s all I can do
To try and have coherence with
What society tells me to do
I used to not be scared of men
But now there is so much fear
Not to go outside at night again
It brings me to tears
I used to be able to on dates
and have a good night
To not worry about getting raped
Or stared at when wearing something tight
I used to be happy
Before I was brought down
By this judging society
Without a sound
I used to trust
Before people would tell
Secrets they would thrust
Before I could even yell
I used to have many friends
Before they all turned fake
Some relationships I had to end
My joy they tried to take
I used to like this earth
Before it really changed
It had been full of worth
Until the people became deranged
