?Just a sip,? he says, reaching for a cup.
?Well, if it?s just a sip,? she responds, her eyebrows going up.

His hand trembling on the cup, he knows they?ll think he?s lame
Sip
So he brings it to his lips; it?s fine- his friends are doing the same
Sip
He winces, then asks for more
Sip
She lets go of his hand and stares at the door
Sip
He laughs, tilting back the cup
Sip
Faraway objects appear close-up
Sip
The liquid burns his throat like fire
Sip
His mind all the while lifting higher
Sip
Suddenly, his head begins to spin
Sip
But he knows this game is one he must win
Sip
The cup begins to sway as he loses control
Sip
His thoughts are trapped in a small fishbowl
Sip
His glassy eyes wander over to her
Sip
But who she is he cannot decipher
Sip
He stands up to walk
Sip
But his body won?t move; it has become a rock
Sip
He opens his mouth to voice his complaint
Sip
But his words are jumbled and jarring; he thinks he might faint
Sip
He puts his head in his lap and covers his ears
Sip
Loud sounds have quickly become one of his fears
Sip
He has no idea he has ruined her night
Sip
And in the morning he will have no memory of the plight

One sip quickly turned into two, and two sips quickly turned into three
Each and every sip putting her into misery
