The Sunset's Faithful Grin
I’m calling for the sea but I’m too far along the shore.
Always looking, searching for something so much more.
Calling for music, looking for movement and I’m praying for you.
Yet you’re only someone I once knew.
Then something takes me to a far away place.
Waves, reaching for a truth not so hard to face.
Reaching, then forgetting to reach.
Then remembering as the waves lick my toes and tickle my feet.
Then I remember, you’re someone I once knew.
Birds flying away, beautiful just like you.
A painted perfect sunset, paused.
And I let go of all the heartache you caused.
Just you and me, together we’ve paid the final fee.
Then I stopped running in the wrong race.
And never turned into forever as the hands on every clock stopped in their place.
They say there’s always another wave if you’re on the right beach.
But the waves calmed and suddenly could no longer reach.
You and I faded into the sunset’s faithful grin.
The waves hardly reached, hardly forgot to reach and then they never tried to reach ever again.
