Into the Night
Into the night
I see you running
You're coming after me
You're stunning
I see you walk beside me but
At times you don't
Seem like it
You seem as though you're staring
You take my hand
Your hand is cold but inviting
Still I pull away
I don't recognize the feel of your skin
The breath of your mouth
The warmth that pulls me in
Onto the road
It's cold at night
You offer your jacket
I take it from you, stranger
Where have you been,
This person I don't know?
The one that's given me their shelter
Where have you been?
I've been looking for you
Why, I'm not sure
But it seemed like time
I've been missing you,
This face I don't know
But something was void
And I wanted you to fill it
You don't want to answer
You pull away
I ask why now
Why this soon, or late
You turn back
I do know your face
From where, I don't know
But you let me look harder
It's clearer now in the dark
I try to talk to you
You take my hand
I don't pull away
I remember the feel of your skin
The warmth of your breath
It's all coming back to me now
You left me behind
Left to fend for myself
To cry
You'd forgotten about me
Once you had gone away
You didn't listen
Didn't care
Stopped worrying
Stopped there
I had tried to be with you before
When you were still with me
Back when I thought I knew you
Back when I recognized you
But that's all changed
You didn't love me back then
You didn't listen; didn't stare
But now you've come back
You want that life again
Only better, this time
You want me to talk
Without knowing what about
You're watching me now
You're doing something I never thought
Was possible for you
I see your eyes
Your ears aren't distracted
You're paying attention
You're listening
