Staring from the windows,
we gazed onto the sparkling waves.
Buzzing with anticipation as we waited.
Waited for the others to finish eating their juicy watermelon so we could swim.

The rocks slimy with algae,
fish tickling our toes,
we swam through the water,
the cold waves splashing our faces but we didn’t care.
We were swimming fast.
Flying through time.

We awaited the wonders of the beach,
the slippery slide,
roaring waters,
graceful birds,
the sun.

It was time.
We were finally making the journey,
the long ten minute swim was finally upon us!
Except,
Liv and Sarah had decided to use the paddle board.

Their driver was awaiting them,
and they jumped straight on,
sending me and Stephanie waves.
We treaded there for a minute,

bobbing in the sudden waves.

Blazing into the water we swam ahead of the paddle board,
attempting the mighty race to get there first.
The waves almost seemed to carry us along.
We were nearly halfway there!

SPLOOSH!
The paddle board zoomed ahead of us.
Our arms were aching,
so we thought quick.
“Here! Alyssa!” Steph called out.
She extended her arm and I grabbed it realizing she had a firm hold on the paddle board.
“Great thinking!” I said quietly as she giggled.

Our hands started to slip,
but it was too late for gravity,
we were already there.
Quickly swimming once again ahead of the paddle board,
we used up our new strength and reached the beach first.

We were finally here!
The sand,
the burning sun,
the seagulls,
the slide,
the beautiful beach.

I was inspired by the calm waves of my friend's lake. The water was so pretty! I tried to capture the excitment of the whole experience through this piece.
