A Separate Peace

Gentle glades and spring flowers
blue skies and still water
the sun gives everything a golden sheen
while living serene and simple dreams.

Nature's sweet melody- tugs the strings of the soul within
a song devoid of any conceived sin
musical notes of this imagined world blow across the wind
a note that no human voice can quite pin.

A vortex opens in the midst of the picturesque landscape
and a portal opens into frightening reality.

Dark clouds of smog hover in the sky- blocking the sun
the golden sheen is gone- your dream is done.
Blood flows down the glade of torment
the echoes of screams and sounds of war are continuant.

No quiet, no beauty in this other place
a landscape structured by distaste.
Two worlds so similar- but differences do not cease
each have their own separate peace.

The author's comments:
I wrote this peom because it has always stricken me that even as we reside in our meadows full of spring flowers where the sun is shining, in other places its not so beautiful. I wrote this poem as a reminder that the world isn't always beautiful and sometimes you have no choice but to find your own peace.
