Against the Current

The river rushes by
pulling along pain and distress-
fighting against hope-
the rapids offer no mercy.
The current pulls you onward-
no matter how hard you swim-
no matter how hard you fight.
You can hear the white noise
of the tumbling waterfall-
but no matter which direction you swim-
you find yourself facing the current-
the river pulls you along-
the thunderous roar of the drop off draws closer-
you shout- but nobody hears
you cough- sputter- gasp for air
but the current smothers you-
and towards the tumbling fall you go-
until the current pulls you over the edge-
and then you're falling-
and the current is gone.

This poem was written as a tribute to the bad days when you feel like you're just being pulled along and you feel there's nothing you can do to stop from falling of the edge.

I thought your poem was good. I like the imagery you create.
