My roots are deep,
my wings nourished,
until they unfurled.
All the dreams I ever glimpsed,
were clung to, every personality quirk,
defining who I am.
It is all because of you.

Loving arms, softly spoken words,
strength, patience, beyond measure.
Harsh hands, strict punishment,
have shaped the person I am.
It is all from you.

My bestfriend.
My mentor.
Bearer of unending love.
Everything I am and will be,
every action I have, do, and will perform.
It's all guided by your hand,
my precious mother.

The author's comments:
Soon I go off to college, and my mother's birthday brought this poem about. Recently we have not been as close as we used to be, but she is still the woman I love and helped mold me to the person I am today.
