Grandma Rosa
Looking up at the sky so blue
The mesmerizing lines of soy
Wishing to be close to you
White lines chase after lines I flew
The fall leaves you always enjoy
Looking up at the sky so blue
Succulents covered with bright dew
Now pressed in pages of Tolstoy
Wishing to be close to you
Sitting next to you. Where are you?
You and me are distant almost coy
Looking up at the sky so blue
Our eyes meet and I see your view
Playing with my fingers like a toy
Wishing to be close to you
Many things now I wish you knew
You see for a second, give me joy
Looking up at the sky so blue
Wishing to be close to you

This poem is written in a villanelle style. Its topic was inspried by the last time I went to visit my grandmother who died days after I left to brain cancer. While visiting her she did not recognize anyone, but for one second of while I was their she recongnized me and said my name. I wrote this poem to try to explain how one second of time can mean so much more than millions of seconds, and how you can see the light in someone passing.
