We are good church-going people
and we will all end up together in heaven
with our lord Jesus
and the fluffy white clouds
(except when the game is on Sunday
or when we stayed up
late Saturday
so the morning was hard.)
We are good church-going people
(except when Lent goes too long
and I sneak candy
and you sneak sex
with out coveted neighbor.)
The Commandments are only guidelines,
really;
our holy wars and hefty lies are only
just.
We are good church-going people
With the fluffy white clouds.

The author's comments:
I was asked to write a poem about one of Gandhi's "7 Blunders", and I chose Worship Without Sacrifice. I so often see people just going through the motions of religion for the sake of it. I don't mean to be offensive, just point out the shallowness of some people's faith.
