“Something That’s Not There”

You sit there
In the darkening night
Watching the trees
The dark forest of life

You sit there
Watching, peering through the night
What are you watching?
Nothing it seems

Watching, just watching
Through a blanket of black
Never thinking, never seeing
Just looking for something

For something unseen
Something that’s not there
Not one single thing
Just life in itself

It seems pointless, it does
To waste your life here
Just waiting for something
Something that’s not there

You say waiting holds meaning
There’s wisdom you gain
But sometimes just waiting
Holds emptiness, nothing

You sit there
Just sitting
Not moving, not turning
Just watching for life

You’re waiting for nothing
You’re waiting for everything
You’re watching and waiting
Waiting for something

For something unseen
Something that’s not there
Not one single thing
Just life in itself

It seems pointless, it does
To waste your life here
Just waiting for something
Something that’s not there

The author's comments:
This poem wasn’t inspired by anything in particular. It was just a spur of the moment thought that I put down on paper. I think it symbolizes how no one can prove the theory of life and how life is whatever you think it is. This poem can be interpreted in many different ways. It varies from person to person, but that’s why I like it.
