Too Tired
I drink my coffee black,
because I'm too tired for cream.
I don't put on makeup,
because I'm too tired to gleam.
I drive to work in silence,
because I'm too tired to focus.
I don't eat any lunch,
because I'm too tired to notice.
Then I drive home alone,
because I'm too tired for company.
I don't make any supper,
because I'm too tired to be hungry.
So go to my bedroom,
becase I'm tired of being tired.
I lie awake all night,
because my mind cannot quiet.
I don't wake with the sun,
because I was too tired to dream.
Then I drink my coffee black,
because I'm too tired for cream.

I struggle with chronic insomnia, and I wrote this piece after a particularly bad few days. At the time, I'd been awake for almost thirty-four hours, and I was very, very tired. I have revised and rhymed the lines, and fit my mess into a meter, but I still think it holds the same effect as when I wrote it. Many people think that insomia is being too wired to sleep, but it feels much like the opposite.
I hope that upon reading this, anyone who can relate knows that they are not alone.
