The All-Knowing Tree

There were faces in the trees around us
I knew this to be true
I saw them every time I walked
Through the forest that I knew

I pretended, however, not to see
I ignored them as I walked
For I knew the fate for those such as I
Away they all were locked

While still, I tried my very best
You can’t pretend forever
I was caught, one day by the evil ones
Who thought they were so clever

They feared my power, as they had
With each and every one
Of my family and friends, of people like me
The ones who couldn’t run

I see all; past, present, future
All the strings of fate
As such, did I devise a plan
Before it was too late

I made a potion that I knew
Would protect me for all time
It would keep my mind and soul intact
With this I would be fine

I must confess, I was afraid
Once the time had come
I lost all feeling in my body
While still more lucky than some

In the forest of the trees with faces
If you have an earnest plea
Come find me and I’ll speak with you
For I’m the all-knowing tree

This poem goes with a fiction piece I'm writing. It is about someone who had magical powers, but was feared by the people without powers. She was able to protect herself with her power of clairvoyance.
