Surely it Follows
Goodness has been here
For all of my days,
Yet filled in with fear
Is where my life stays.
I’ve been unthankful
My heart filled with rust;
I can't just stay dull,
And rot in the lust.
Help me to break free
And live fully true;
Show me the life tree
And please see me through.
I know if I ask
That it will be done,
But it is a hard task
To not up and run.
I know he’ll follow
And help show me through.
Safe is the swallow
All days old and new.
I am unfaithful
But aid me you do;
Help the unstable
Show us what is true.
Good acts are answered
By one and the same,
I feel I’m cornered
Don’t know my own name.
Cause fear is a liar
And lies cause much pain,
Sharp like a briar
And nothing they gain.
Yet goodness pursued
Me all days anew;
Though I’ve been sorrowed
I see now, I do.
That surely it trails
And fights for my hand;
It helps through the wails
And sees that I’m grand.
Yes sometimes I fail
To see that it’s there;
Then I see a nail
Through hands raw and bear.
