I am from tractor rides,
hikes in a snowy forest, and bedtime stories.
I am from huddling by the heater in winter
while my daddy sat next to me.
I am from car rides at night with my sister.
I am from pretend tea parties.

I am from bits to whole pieces of peppermint.
I am from Clarence and Doris, Helen and Charles.
I am from one dollar bill surprises, fishing,
popsicles, and ramen noodles.
I am from vegetable gardens and Laundromats.

I am from the love of Laverne and Matthew.
I am from special prayers before bed and
sleeping on the side where the fan was.
I am from dance classes and Spongebob episodes.
I am from the dark hole of losing a parent.

I am from being called “Shirley Temple”
because of my curls and once very chubby cheeks.
I am from honor, love, and respect.
I am from encouragement, support and trust in God.
I am from those who believe.

The author's comments:
For my Honors English class, we had to write an "I Am From" poem. The first paragraph is about main things that come to mind when you think of your childhood. The second is about your grandparents. The third - your parents . Fourth - overall family values/traditions.
