When I Wake to the Honey-Sweet Light of Dawn
When I wake to the honey-sweet light of dawn,

the first thing I think of is you,

 and your ocean eyes,

 and cherry sweet lips.

I walk in circles all day,

trying to wake myself from this dreaming state that you have me in,

and to pass the time faster,

so that I may be with you.

In the evening, as the sun finally sets,

 I sneak away before tea-time,

to dance in the streets with you

among the twinkling lights and whisperings young poets.

 Summer comes and goes,

And as the crisp chill of winter sets in,

I feel you change with the crunching of orange leaves,

 crushed beneath thick boots..

One day we walk together to the edge of the Earth.

I clutch you to keep warm.

Snow is stuck to your eyelashes.

Your icy fingers intertwine with mine.

When I finally bring myself to say goodbye,

I look at you once more.

But all that I can see in your ocean eyes
are sea monsters swimming in blackness.
