Eliza's Eulogy
Eliza dear it’s different here, now that you’ve gone away
The rooster’s crow falls flat and low at odd times of the day
The hens they won’t stop cackling, they preen and gossip too
I think it’s clear, Eliza dear, they’re envious of you.

Your razor beak and pupils of an iridescent sheen
Your speckled coat owed much to a codominance of gene
The butcher hesitated, to wring your dappled neck
He did the job but only ‘cause, my father signed his check.

I thought it was an insult, what they planned to do with you
Meant to stuff you into Quackers and him through Gobbler Stu
Don’t worry, they saw reason. I stood up for you then
Mark my words, Eliza. You won’t be a turducken!

No my little chicken, for you’ve earned far more than that
Your culinary gravestone will be something to drool at!
I think I’ve done my duty by you, the loved deceased
So now my dear Eliza. My dearest, rest in geese.
