The Lost Armada
We'n fishing one day in the afternoon
For to catch some fish for dinner
And then saw one big wooden ship
T'was crowded all over with sinners.
We knowed, we knowed they was sinners,
Cos they spoke not a word of Gaelic
But shouted in strange heathen tongues
And looked on us over the railing.
They clambered ashore so we killed uns
We saw that they was from the Divil
So we killed uns and took their soft boots.
And while they was shouting in heathen
At the Sign of the Cross what we made,
One shouted something about Phillip
And straight after I chopped off his head.
And later some big men from the city
They asked us if we'd seen those men
We lied and said no and we hidden the boots
And they frowned and said "the Spanish came not, then."

Based on a fact I read in Horrible Histories Ireland. Irish peasants killed the Spanish who came at the request of the anti-British nationalists.
