Bird who takes flight from the gallows,
Bird who takes flight to the air,
Whisper to me that you're really my true love
Who once was a hanging man there.
Whisper to me in his old voice
From the sky that I barely can see
Say I'm a fool to think he's truly gone
Say he's turned to a bird just for me.
Oh, bird who takes flight to the gallows
You are my only last hope
Say he's alive or I'll soon be his bride
In a beautiful collar of rope
And we'll wear matching collars of rope.
